be a good judge of judges is a phrase that i have heard a lot recently, and i think it sums me up perfectly, i dont think that it totally apt in my case because when i put my head down i can work a race out pretty well, but my lifestyle just does not lend itself to having my head burrowed down into a form book and working out sectionals, so no worries for Andrew & Mark !! But i do think im a decent judge of a horse racing judge it all started back in the 1980's with Marten Julian, i had a decent run with Bob Rothman although it all ended in tears with him, but the early days were good very good. And in the last decade it has been almost exclusively Mark Holder, Optimum & Isiris......... what i like about the first two apart from the year on year profits, is the value of the mesage on days when no bet is advised and today was a great example of that with the message from OPTIMUM no account bet, but 3 races discussed produced 2 winners @ 5/1 and 4/1, the 1st discussed was the 1.00 Warwick with a preference for Moustique de L'isle @ 20/1 with a negative for Topless, i missed the 20/1 so decided to watch and lay Topless for a place @ 2.36, a wise course of action with Moustique de L,isle sulking and having an off day and Topless although travelled well found little at the business end of the race. If there was to be one bet of the day Andrew suggested Amble Forge ew @ 5/1 with the dead 8 in action i waited till near the race and invested £25 ew @ 5/1 a nice winner on a otherwise quiet day. Ballyboley was the preference at the prices in the 3.40 with stamina concerns over the 11/8 Oscar Jack, these were borne out as Balleyboley ran out a decent victor and the fav struggling to cope with the distance in testing going, i didnt play on the race as i was happy with the days p/l and had pulled stumps for the day after the Amble Forge race.
